Main Aims: by the end of the  lesson  students will be able to talk about their preferences using Present Simple affirmative and negative of the verb “ to like “ 3d person singular

Subsidiary Aims: Students will practise their turn taking skills .

Personal Aims: Not to over plan , concentrate on the activities that are   important to achieve the main aim .

 

 

Topic / Activities:    My preferences

 

Language Structures / Vocabulary: I like / I don’t like ;

He/She likes / He /She doesn’t like

Vocabulary about the things we like such as ( Bees , Bats  , French fries  , Soup )

 

 

Materials: Hand-outs with different objects to speak about likes and dislikes : A song “ If you like it and you know clap your hands “ ,

 

 

Assumptions: Ss  may  know some vocabulary  to speak about their preferences  ,

 

They  could use “ I like and / I don’t like “ to talk about their likes and dislikes

Warm-up

 

To stir  Ss and set the scene .

Greet the Ss

Ask Ss to make a circle

“ Now let’s sing  song

First demonstrate and then ask Ss to sing along .”

Ss will greet the T and

Ss could not understand the words of the song , so I will demonstrate first and then ask them to sing together

 

 

Pre –teach 

Blocking vocabulary

To prevent misunderstanding while doing the activity

T shows the flashcards  to the Ss and elicits the words “ Bees , Bats , French fries , Soup “ from the Ss . If necessary provides the  words and drills pronunciation

SS will be saying  the  words on the flashcards

Ss might not memorize the words at once or mispronounce them. Ask Ss to repeat the words again

 

 

To revise the use of “ I like and I don’t like “

T divides Ss  into two groups “ Apples “ and “ Bananas “

T demonstrates the activity

T draws 3 circles on the board  : Ice-cream-yes I like ice-cream   J , crocodile – no , I don’t like crocodile L , potatoes –they are o.k-

 

T asks to sit on the carpet  and says .French  fries – I like  and draws J , Bees –I don’t  like  and draws L . Now sit on your chairs and draw smiles very quickly . Set the time -30 seconds .

Ss will be completing the hand –out , first together with the teacher and then individually

Some Ss may misunderstand the instructions

Ask each other about the things in the pictures .

Ask 2 Ss to help you to demonstrate the activity. T provides SS with the model : Do you like …? Yes , I do / No, I don’t . It’s OK . T asks Ss to draws smiles about their Ss preferences .

T sets the time – 1 minute

Ss will be asking each other questions about  the things they like and dislike

Ss can misunderstand  the task : try to give clearer instructions and demonstrate with  Ss

 

To introduce the new structure

I like cats ,Anna likes dogs , Anton (  T  tries to elicit from Ss ) . Look at tell about your friend : “ What does your friend like …Lisa likes apples , cakes . T asks each  S to make a sentence about his / her friend’s preferences .

Ss will make sentences about their friends .

 Ss can make the mistakes with new structure : drill and go on with the activity .

NORTON GAME : SUBBSTITUTIONAL DRILL :

T asks Ss to make a circle and demonstrates the activity

: Norton says : I like cakes .

T gives a S a ball and asks him to say : Norton Likes cakes . The  S throws a ball to the next S and Ss listen to  Norton and transform the sentences using  Norton likes/ Norton doesn’t like

 Ss will make sentences using : Norton likes / Norton doesn’t like .

 Some Ss can  still  make mistakes  : correct them gently on the spot – it is Controlled practice activity .

 

 

To give ss more practice using the new structures

 Guess : What animal is it ?

Ss get a mini-book with a picture of animal in it  .  T  asks Ss to draw or to write what this animal likes and  doesn’t like .

Then Ss  make sentences  about their animal and their friends  guess what animal it is .

Ss will write about an animal’s likes and dislikes

They might have few ideas .  let them draw pictures instead of the words

 

Feedback : to praise Ss for their good work
